This is my sixth year as a 6th grade science teacher at Ligon Middle School. I grew up here in Raleigh, NC and attended nearby Carnage GT Magnet Middle School and graduated from Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. For college, I chose East Carolina University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Middle Grades Education, concentrating in both Science and Social Studies.
Here at Ligon, I am one of the sixth grade team leads and science department chair. I can often be found supporting many of Ligon's athletic and arts events after school. Aside from teaching, I love to spend time with my family and friends, try new restaurants around town, read, shop, cook, and go to the beach. I am also a HUGE sports fanatic (Go Dallas COWBOYS! Go ECU PIRATES! Go OKC THUNDER!) Over the 2015 Summer Break, I began my Kenan Fellowship through NC State University, where I was able to work in the Genomics lab at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences for three weeks. I worked on a Students Discover project that encourages Citizen Science where anyone can contribute to REAL science! I continued my work with Students Discover during the 2016 and 2017 Summer Breaks as a teacher for the Students Discover Academy program at Knightdale High School. I love watching students will be participate in citizen science projects and completing meaningful science activities. During Summer 2017 I traveled to the beautiful country of Belize with other educators from North Carolina and learned about the various ecosystems within the country. I look forward to getting to know each of my students throughout the school year! :) |
